Solo Guitar

In my mind,
In the lime light,
On stage,
There he is
Sweat dropping on his Les Paul.
As he plays, he closes his eyes
His fingers running on the strings, his heart wide open
The notes come naturally, a vibration so strong.
Sitting there watching him
His music to my ears elevates my soul
Soul to Soul communication I call it.
Sitting there watching him
The hair on my arms stand straight
I close my eyes too but open up my senses
His music carries me away in the distance
A journey inside my inner world
A peaceful place where life's trash loses its grip on me
I float, float like a feather high in the sky
Exposed to the wind, to the vibes coming from his solo guitar.

Pages are to be turned

Its not as sudden as you could think
The signs were there for you to see
But in her arms you were blinded
Its been so long since you last heard it
Now in your ears, this song is repeatedly playing
In sorrows you are writing
These words that she will never see
It hurts it hurts so bad

A step at a time
through your fingers she slipped away
Like sand that you try to hold
From this beautiful beach where you never walked
In her eyes you will never see
The love there use to be

Yours hands she used to hold
In his arms she now longs to be
Pages are to be turned.
Be a man about it
If you love somebody
Set them free

In my mind will never die
The time we spent together
But all good times have an end
Indeed as I dry my tears
I say to myself
No regret no sorrows
We lived something great!

West Side Story

Dear All,

If someone draws a gun to solve a parking space problem and if that someone is a magistrate of the supreme court of this country.................then we have a serious problem!

If a magistrate dares to draw a gun to solve a parking problem, what example is here given to the rest of the population. How can you then expect an habitual criminal to react?

We have either a serious stress or attitude problem in this country. Look around you, many think that they can do whatever they want.................who's fault?you tell me!

Where was GOD????

Sunday night, 23 00.

I was asleep and I felt my phone vibrating. I looked at the time and thought, “That must some friends cracking jokes, they always do” , and I slept. I ignored the call.

Then, morning came and I saw the message and I felt my blood go cold. I was unable to move, to talk…There was no reaction. The only thing I felt was this shivering and an emptiness.

The guy was a friend. We did not talk often. Actually, we talked very rarely. But I knew him and even if I did not know him totally and that we were not that close, I knew him!! And he was dead!!

It’s not like he was sick or had an accident or something. He was snatched from his life. Yeah, just snatched, deprived. By who? By a sick pervert who found it “exciting” to watch two kids, yeah kids, kissing.

Tell me, did Cedric had to die because he was living the normal life of a 17 years old? Did his girlfriend deserve to be raped because they were simply enjoying their holidays?

I do not think so and I’m sure none of you do.

So, to the monster who did that, I hope you get the life sentence and that you rot in hell. And I hope that till your last breath, you see the face of the boy you killed. And everyday of your life, just think about the hopes and dreams you destroyed on that beach.

Rest in Peace Cedric Matombé.

A special thought for a special friend.................

A special thought goes to our friend stereophonics who lost his Dad this week end. Tought times for him and family.

At Church, Father Billy said " life is not an end in itself, other that the physical self that stops its existence, everything else remains, the soul remains. Our current life is only one stage in something larger. This is the basis of our faith. One day we will all meet again"

Who will I vote for?

Who will get my 3 votes?

This is the big question.

What if I tell you that I am a creole. Further what if I tell you that I was at last Saturday's FCM meeting at Saint Mary's College.

Does the above give you an indication of who I will vote for?

Well, you are dead wrong.

I was there simply just out of curiosity. I've heard so much about it that I had to figure out what it was really up to.

I heard about the manisfesto, I heard from the leaders and I've heard the members also. Well so long that there exist Voices of X or Y, then I believe it makes perfect sense for the FCM to exist. This said, if it was up to me I would immediately disband and outlaw all the FCM and VO? of Mauritius.

FCM is a proclaimed "non political" organisation. There was a persistant rumour during the past weeks that FCM president would be a Labour candidate. Then during the last meeting FCM's president asked whether we as creoles would vote for a government which promised wonders to creoles but failed to deliver. Many thought they had the correct interpretation of what he meant, I guess many of us are feeling stupid this morning. We had no clue that one of the leaders had an hidden agenda and was in the race for a Labour nomination. Mauritius is surely a free country but when you are the vice president of a non-political organisation, I believe that the least you can do is to disclose your political agenda. I feel offended and I am sure its the same for many others. Its no longer a mystery why in its last public meeting FCM gathered a crowd of 8,000 people as opposed to the 50,000 people crowd of its first meeting. We can feel when people are genuine or not!!!!Prove me wrong.

Now to get back to who my votes will go to.................I want to say that I am no fixed deposit to anyone. It should be the same for all of us, come on guys we are not stupid!!!!!! We should stop supporting political parties just like we support Manchester Utd or Liverpool FC. Further what this nonsense about creole voting creole or muslim voting muslisms and hindu voting hindu. What if the creole, muslim or hindu candidate is a complete "non-event"? We should all have at heart our own future and the future of the country, we need people who will work for the progress of our consituencies and for the country irrespective of the colour of his skin or his faith. I will vote for people who have made and will go on making a difference. People who unite rather than divide. People of action rather those who talk a lot.

A journey into our senses

Last Wednesday Anna Hausser, our TM of the evening walked us through our doorways of perception and into a fantastic exploration of our senses. And with our heightened senses, Luc Merven’s word of the day, sedulous stood out and engraved itself on our minds. Incidentally, Luc also had his first experience as the Ah Counter and Listener Post and my God, trust an accountant to be so precise and accurate in his count of pause fillers. From my own experience, not only was his report the most complete one I have ever listened to in a Toastmaster’s meeting but it was also such a valuable help to us who are fighting so hard to improve our presentation skills.
Our hearty congratulations go to our French ambassador, Sylvie Moonsamy, who delivered her last speech to become our latest Competent Communicator. Sylvie Moonsamy had chosen to comment on the Information Systems environment of our club, and intelligently used a Powerpoint Presentation to guide us through this technical subject.
Ricardo Freyneau touched all our hearts with a true episode of his life in Botswana. Damien Veerapatren gave us an insight into Churchill’s life and Shaffiq told us that to obtain the best results from your team, you should give them tasks which are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound.
Our round of evaluations was smoothly and expertly handled by Karen Alexandre, Patrick Ah Vane, James Benoit and Padmini Lareine.
I, myself, as the Table Topics master, made our participants dive into the depths of their senses by making them close their eyes and comment on an object which they could explore only by the feel, smell and touch of it.
We were happy to welcome back Robin Appadoo among us as the Timer. Robin, due to his frequent professional trips abroad had not been able to participate actively last year but he is back this year with lots of enthusiasm and ready for a taste and experience of the life as a Financial Toastmaster.
Sabrina Hanoomanjee was our last speaker as the General Evaluator. That was her very first attempt in this role but those who know her well will not be surprised to hear that as usual, she gave us a crisp, articulate and poised performance.

The Illusionist

Many calls him the prince,I call him the illusionist.
Why?
He convinces, he seduces.
He is a master illusionist,
To him image, communication are everything
He flirts with the one and marry the other.
They wanted "to give it a good try",
He just did not care!!!!!
The old dog fell into the trap,
Oh, yes once more!!!!
Stupid dog! We definitely can't teach you new tricks.

The illusionist cultivates his image, he manipulates perception.

However, how come when negotiation times come, he gives away 30% tickets to some people who per numerous surveys carry less than 10% of the population. After all does he really believe in himself?
Or else, could there be an hidden agenda here? Are the masters putting their ducks in a row for the 2015 elections already.
Could the illusionist be preparing for his retirement?

On his side, the old dog is back barking in the back yard with his old mates. Its true that he hasn't said his last word though, the game is not over yet.
You can fool some people sometime but illusionist or not, you cannot fool all the people all the time.
Anyway, at the end of the day its image management and communication which will make the difference.

D.
Can someone please say to the old dog that we are in the information age?
Can someone also say to all of them that "dynasty" is no longer on TV!!!!

Petty things

Its amazing how at times simple things can make life miserable
Close properly the toothpaste tube,
Don't leave your flip flops all over the place,
Switch off the lights,
Why do you leave an empty glass in the sink when its all cleaned up etc etc
The above are indeed petty things,
But when added up they can become a real problem
Why do you pick on me if the TV technician is 1 hour late,
Am I responsible of his time table???
Respect yourself in the first place
Respect other people's efforts as well.
And all should be fine.

The proper function of Man is to Live, not to exist!

"I would rather be ashes than dust!

I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot...

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet...

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist!

I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time!"

What about Mauritius?

The Burj Dubai Skycraper is opening up on Monday next, 4th January 2010. Roughly, this building is as tall as the World Trade Center Towers piled atop of the other. Its about 2600 ft high, 160 storeys. It will officially take its place as the tallest building in the world.

The Burj Dubai Skycraper has 37 floors of office space. The paradox lies in that there is no demand for office space in Dubai at the moment.

After having been under the spot light for the last few years for its real estate development, Dubai was hit about a month ago by a massive real estate collapse that has forced the most populous member of the U.A.E to seek repeated billions bail outs from neighbouring Abu Dhabi.

What about Mauritius?

If you drive around Mauritius, you'll be amazed by the large number of construction projects underway.

The big question is whether history is repeating itself. Are we not in the same scenario that has caused Dubai to collapse. Are we not over confident about our resilience to the laws of the economic universe?

Ebene, Jin fei, Bagatelle, Highlands, Mon piton, La balise, Trianon shopping mall are just a few of the commecial centers, RES, IRS developments taking place at the moment. How much can the market take?

Isn't a dangerous real estate bubble forming?

In what sense is Mauritius so different compared to other countries.

More in the years to come................

Life

Separate life from circumstances.
Present circumstances seem impossible,
However its nearly Christmas and I want to believe that life still has in store many happy moments for me.
I want to believe that life is larger than whatever the troubles I am in at the moment.
What's one day, one week or one year in a life time?
Surely one second can ruin a whole life, but one day, one week or a year is generally a fraction of a lifetime.
When I look back, there are so many things which have unfolded in ways I would never have imagined. There have already been so many hurdles along the way. Many times it seemed difficult, almost hopeless but yet I made it.
Time passes, people come and go, circumstances change.
Although its raining today, it can't rain endlessly.
Take blows, learn the lesson but never give up on life.
Coz life is a gift, your gift, 24 hours a day where you are free to decide.
Don't leave your life to other people, it is for you to decide
You can make it or break it but believe me life is a beautiful gift.
Although one might not see it in certain circumstances, its a blessing to be alive.

The Prophet

I have a story for you,
A guy had an affair. His wife found out about his wanderings and committed suicide.
She left a letter which read something like,
" I cannot live without you, yet I cannot accept your treason. I am finished, I choose to die"
Life went on for the guy, so much that he got married sometime back just a few months after the trajedy.
I was deeply moved by this story.
May be I am too sentimental but its as if the wife has been hurt twice in this story and is at the end of day the BIG loser (with all due respect to a dead person). This makes me think of what Gibran's Prophet said on marriage. This is to me the guide I follow in my personal married life, its such an inspiration...............
Then Almitra spoke again and said...
"And what of Marriage, master?"
And he answered saying: You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love. Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together. For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow
Cheers
Daryl

... our self?

"When we awaken the spirit we nurture our highest self. This looks like different things to different people...

To some, the spirit may involve prayer...

For others, caring for the spirit may be reflected by communing with nature or listening to great music...

For yet others, awakening the spirit involves service, volunteerism, and living for a crusade larger than oneself..."

Protest walk

I invited some 25 persons to join me; I finally made it alone.

Mauritius is a free country isn’t it.

Since it was an apolitical gathering I feel free to estimate the number of participants to around 1500 – 2000. Yes, guys that’s all taking into consideration the number of inhabitants of the relevant regions. The chimney of the incinerator we were told would be 89 mts high and it is expected that people situated within 40kms around its site are likely to be affected by the gas emission.

Why do so little people feel concerned. Ten years back all sorts of guarantees were given by government to people of Mare Chicose, today these people are being relocated to other places because of this project being a massive flop. Can we people sit while danger is so close? I just want to understand why Christophe came all the way from Curepipe, why ecological movements from the south of Mauritius made the trip while on the other side none of my neighbors made it. God knows that we are located only 10kms away from the site.

Can someone please explain to me why?

I guess that’s Mauritius and its people docile et admirable.

Incinerateur Tueur

Guys,

Lets fight for our right to life and lets preserve our environment. We surely do not want this thing in our back yard. We care for our health and the lives of our loved ones.

We hold our future in our hands right now. Lets join forces and keep this potential killer off our shores.

See you on 24 May 2009, there is no excuse, do not leave it to others to fight for your future.

Take control mates.............................

Many times we are controlled by our fears. One of our biggest fear is the fear of failure.

We do not apply for a post because we fear failure, we never got to start our enterprise because of the fear of failure.

There is one thing which all big names in this world have in common..........at one time or another they've all failed. The other thing they have in common is that they never gave up, got back on their feet and tried again and again.

Are you living the life of your dream? Are you taking enough risks? Is fear standing in your way?

I have learned that the solution to overcome fear is to actually undertake/do whatever you fear the most.......... control your fear before it owns you.

Failure is the highway to success. If you've never failed, then probably you've never been far enough, you are probably not dreaming big enough.

Success follows the law of averages, by living your dream you might fail once or twice but ultimately you will succeed.

This is absolute truth.............

It was in the early 80's.
I came out first of the class for standards 1, 2 and 3. I was in standard 4 at an RCA school in Rose-Hill. On the first day of the year the new teacher sent me to the black board to solve a problem. Unfortunately for me I did not have the answer.

I still have the vivid image of what happened next. She said to the whole class "He claims to be the first in class but he cannot solve this problem. What could one expect from people of his sort and from where he comes from. He surely cheated in exams". From there I was forced to take a seat at the back of the class along with those labelled "Stupid".

Garbage, pain .................peotic?

You know that romantic notion that all the garbage and the pain is really healing and beautiful and sort of poetic?
It's not. That notion is just garbage and it's pain.

You know what's better? Love.
The day that you start thinking that love is overrated is the day that you're wrong.
The only thing wrong with love and faith and belief is not having it.

Pam
